“Madagascar is truly the naturalist’s promised land…At every step you are met by the most bizarre and wonderful forms “( J.P Commerson in 1771) . Compared with the breathtaking ecosystems of mainland Africa, Madagascar’s fauna has far more subtle qualities with some 115 lemur species ,around 150 birds species and about 365 reptile species .The island is home to a staggering 13,000 flower species, making it the number one floral hotspot in the world. Eighty percent of its flora and fauna are found nowhere else. The 8th continent is not only famous for its unique wildlife but also about its people . About 4000 years ago, a proto-globalization process started in the Indian Ocean. One of the outcomes being a great human migration of African and Asian peoples spreading across the Indian Ocean to inhabit the 4th largest island in the world :Madagascar. Austronesian peoples came from Borneo on boats, and Bantu migrants crossed over from East Africa (…) the Malagasy genetic diversity is 68 % African and 32% Asian “( source :PNAS /USA ) .
